FORUM ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT: What’s Next for Haiti?
TUESDAY, JANUARY 26TH, 2010 at 6PM
North PJ Auditorium
Roosevelt at UGA, the University’s student-run think tank sponsored by the Honors Program, and Dawgs for Haiti, a university-wide campaign to aid the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, will host a public forum of distinguished faculty to provide a comprehensive overview of the effect of this earthquake. We will be asking for a suggested donation of $2 and will be selling T-shirts for $10. All proceeds will go to the Dawgs for Haiti campaign whose efforts support the American Red Cross and Doctors without Borders. Participating faculty include:
Steve L. Brown, Assistant Dean, Extension of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, will speak on the agricultural impact of the earthquake, specifically the exacerbation of the problem of trying to feed millions of malnourished Haitians.
Reinaldo L. Roman, Associate Professor, Department of History, will speak on the Republic’s historical struggles and issues surrounding citizenship and religion.
Larry Nackerud, Professor, School of Social Work, will speak on the lack of resources available to the Haitians and how the economic malaise in the US limited reparations sent back to Haiti.
William D. Lastrapes, Professor, Department of Economics, will speak on the ramifications of the earthquake and subsequent destruction to Haiti’s already fragile economy.
